“Au bout du Monde” is a project about Salin-de-Giraud, a village located south-east of the Rhône river in Camargue, France. The village was built at the end of the nineteenth century and became the hub of the emerging salt industry of the time; it is renowned for its salt production still today. Among other minorities, it became home to many Greek refugees from Asia Minor who have been working as laborers. Today, the extraction companies are gradually ceasing their operations, while trying to erase everything that witnesses the industrial history of the place. Through my encounter with members from the remaining community, I was inspired to photograph a place in transition that has seen deterioration over the years. The prospective tourist and residential development projects will mark the transformation of a glorious landscape that once evoked the sense of liberty to the exiled immigrants.
